Living with Nut Allergy Symptoms I can remember the first time that I had a reaction to nuts as if it were yesterday. I was out at a restaurant, eating food that I had eaten many times in the past. I began to feel as if my entire body were crawling with bugs and within a few minutes, I was having a difficult time breathing. Although this reaction was somewhat mild, it alerted me to the fact that I had a problem which needed to be addressed. It took a little bit of investigation but through a series of allergy tests, my doctor was able to determine that I had a problem with a nut allergy. At first, I thought that it was not a big deal and that I would just have to avoid eating these nuts in order to avoid having the problem again. I was surprised to find out that the next reaction that I had might be deadly. As a matter of fact, I had probably been dealing with this nut allergy for quite some time but the reactions that I was having were so slight that I wasn't able to recognize them. My experience in the restaurant was enough to teach me a lesson, however, so I began looking for a way to deal with the symptoms, should they happen to occur again. I was surprised to find out that there was very little that can be done in order to overcome a nut allergy. As a matter of fact, the only way to overcome it is to overcome it naturally. Unfortunately, very few people were able to outgrow their nut allergy so it is something that they have to deal with for the rest of their life. The only option that I had was to make sure that I was prepared, should I happen to have another reaction to nuts that I accidentally came in contact with. There are two different things that I always carry and I make sure that they are my constant companion. The first of these was an over the counter antihistamine which had a fast absorption. If I started to feel as if I was having a little bit of a reaction because of food that I was eating, I immediately took one of these antihistamines to see if I could cut it off. If the reaction turned severe, however, I also had an injectable drug which was prescribed to me by my doctor. Of course, avoiding nuts was my first line of defense but other than that, these two things help me to deal with the symptoms.
